Phayao as the Centre of Water Hyacinth Weaving

The Isara Straw Clutch Bag is handmade by artisans working within The Straw Bag Company’s nationwide craft network. At the heart of our water hyacinth production is Phayao, a northern province where natural hyacinth straw is harvested, prepared, and woven entirely by hand. More than 30 full-time women artisans work in Phayao, meeting in daily team sessions to fulfil active orders. These women form the foundation of our business, maintaining the knowledge and consistency that define the quality of every finished bag.

Expanding Skillsets Across Thailand

Outside of Phayao, our production model includes additional teams across Nakhon Sawan, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Phatthalung. These southern locations focus on weaving seagrass, also known locally as krajood. The stitching and final detailing of krajood bags are completed in Chiang Mai by women in small rural villages. Altogether, our operations support over 80 staff across Thailand, including harvesting workers, weavers, stitchers, logistics support, and team managers.
